Blue Boy for a Week

This is Dakota Proctor's contribution to the project--He wore the same outfit for 5 days.

  1. I think its really interesting how long it took most people to notice you repeated clothing items. I noticed around two days after only because I knew the project and I remembered saying I liked your shirt two days in a row hahaa. I agree when you say how fortunate we are that we have clothes to choose from because a majority of the world's population doesn't have that luxury.

  2. Though we have two classes together, I never even noticed that you were wearing the same clothes. Maybe because I don't see you outside of class that much. Anyway, even in a tightly knit community like UNCSA, students still don't have a great amount of social capital, though it may be higher than the national average. Americans in general are truly fortunate to have a vast array of clothes and entertainment and money, yet still we are never satisfied. We should be more grateful and appreciative.

  3. Hey Dakota did anyone not want to be near cause your clothes started to smell or did people just think that it was weird that you were wearing the same clothes?
Sorry that I didn't notice until about the third day, I guess we have some work to do.

  4. I am with Noah on this one. I didn't notice that you had done this project until the third day. I bet it was interesting to experience what some people in society live like today. I think that most Americans should be grateful for what they have instead of complaining about what they don't have.

  6. Could performing this exercise in a different context allow it greater influence on people's views? What if your repetitive apparel became a creative means of addressing an issue of international significance?

  7. I definatly give you props for wearing the same clothes for a week. I have visited other countries where people only have a couple things to wear. When I visited Mexico last year, we revisited a house we had built the previous year for a family with two little girls. I made sure to take some of my old dance costumes that don't fit anymore and we gave them to the girls. They were overjoyed and didn't know what to put on first. Finally they had something more fun to wear than their one t-shirt and one pair of jeans with holes in the knees. I think it's very important to think about what we buy and how we live because somewhere there is someone who is in need more than we. Great job.

  8. Nice videos. And the same underwear Dakota? You really went all out there! Honestly, I couldn't imagine wearing the same outfit for a week, let alone for a whole year. Maybe that might have to do with the amount of clothing I have to change into for dance... Yet it truly gets you thinking about what it would be like to not have access to excess. Or even necessities. It almost redefines the definition of necessity. Are different clothing options a necessity for Americans? What about for people in third world countries? Certainly gets you thinking.
